Stars mark how urgent it usually isYou reach in and the milk feels warmer than it should, leftovers going bad a day or two early. Most often a vent inside the cabinet is partly blocked, or the compressor itself is starting to wear down.
You find a bit of water on the floor near the front, with nothing obvious causing it. In most cases a drain tube somewhere behind the interior panel has frozen solid or become blocked.
Vegetables toward the back start growing frost, or a soda comes out slushy instead of cold. A sensor misreading the temperature is the usual cause, sometimes paired with a damper stuck open too wide.
Out of nowhere there's a hum or rattle that wasn't there a week ago. Usually points to the evaporator fan wearing out, or the fridge itself having tilted slightly on the floor.
Days go by and the ice bin stays empty, dispenser not doing anything when pressed. Most commonly the water supply valve feeding the ice maker has frozen solid.
The motor sounds like it's always on, and you can feel warmth coming off the side panel. Usually the condenser coils underneath have built up enough dust to choke off the airflow it needs to cycle properly.

Some fridge issues come down to something small you can rule out yourself in a couple of minutes, no tools or risk involved.
Check The Temperature Dial
Settings sometimes get bumped while loading groceries. Confirm the fridge is set between 37–40°F and the freezer around 0°F.
Clear The Interior Vents
Overstuffed shelves can block the vents that circulate cold air. Make sure nothing tall is pressed right up against them.
Look At The Door Seal
Close the door on a dollar bill halfway. If it slides out easily, the seal may have a gap letting warm air in.
Confirm It's Getting Power
Check the outlet hasn't tripped and the cord is firmly plugged in. A loose plug can look like a bigger problem than it is.
Give It Some Breathing Room
Fridges pushed flush against a wall can overheat. Leave a couple of inches of space behind and above it if you can.
Check If It's Level
A fridge tilted even slightly can run louder or drain wrong. Most models have adjustable front feet for this.
